Did some shopping, the town was quite packed today, those survey people and clipboard terrorists where out on the rampage. we walked nearly head on into three of them. What looked like the leader of the group said "which one of us do you want?" I continued walking and said "none of you." The wife didn't appreciate that, I am always embarresing her with my random outbursts and one liners. But seriously, if you are out shopping, you don't usually want to be stopped and asked about what deodorant and tampons we use, we have busy lives and generally don't come into town to mindlessly wait to get cornered by some bored middle aged woman with a clipboard and an ID badge. The one thing I did notice was that there was a strange atmosphere in the air, I couldn't put my finger on it, people seemed a little more urgent than usual. Some were walking around with those anti pollution masks on and others were buying lots of bottled water. I guess I never really noticed before, but it seemed more apparent today.
Got home, opened up the Sun newspaper and was greeted with this rather frightening spread...
looks like this Bird Flu is starting to look more serious than first thought. The media do like to exaggerate to scare people, and I'm sure that if I read other papers today they would all say something different. That said, this virus has proved it can be passed on to humans and they are saying that there is no vaccine strong enough to fight it. I do hope this isn't true, because the last thing we need is a new type of superbug that is going to try and wipe us all out, after all, we havent even had the olympics yet and at least give the 2012 doomsday a chance to be proved wrong.
Anyhow I have a few cans of beer to drink tonight, not going to worry about the news. May put on a few episodes of 24 later if I'm in the mood.
